Pinprick
#1
In the blackness that is
My war-torn spirit
There is a light
Burning in the pit.

A pinprick of daylight
In the silence of the tomb.
Tenuously flickering
Going out soon.

I'm fighting to hold on
To the better parts of me
But it's always a contest
Between myself and the sea.

Will I hold on
to all that I hold dear
Will my better angels prevail
Or will I give way to fear?

This question forever haunts me
In the light of day, and the dark of night.
And I wait here, flickering,
Until the day I lose the fight.

If I let go
Will there be anything left?
Or will I be empty,
A soul bereft?

That is not dead which can eternal lie,<br />And with strange aeons even death may die.
