A Blackbird Came To Die

A Blackbird Came To Die

I neither bestow nor can I take life.
For that, a much Greater Power than I
rises to the occasion.

Sometimes though,
a living presence makes its way
into my awareness and so I
become midwife to its death.

A few days ago I noticed a blackbird with an
iridescent head and broken ebon wing.

He could not stand on his left talon

I will bury it tonight.
There are some things that can not be saved.

There are some things that I have learned to let go of,
over and over and over
again.
"My candle burns at both ends; It will not last the night; But ah, my foes, and oh, my friends It gives a lovely light!"
     Edna St. Vincent Millay

Razors pain you;
Rivers are damp;
Acids stain you;
And drugs cause cramp.

Guns aren't lawful;
Nooses give;
Gas smells awful;
You might as well live.
